Breaking News……………………………..

Everyday we are challenged to learn new and exciting lessons. This morning I learned a painful lesson of patience and better time management. I would like to start this month message with a quick story of how quickly life can hand you an uncomfortable situation and opportunity to grow.

I woke from a very deep sleep after a extremely exciting few days working with clients and preparing for the How to Make 2009 Your Healthiest and Best Year Charity Event. I thought this was going to be another wonderful day and at 7:06am that all changed within 10 second. I lost control of my car and slid into coming traffic hitting one car and just missing another. Why am I sharing this story? First it’s moments like this that make you really appreciate living. Last night I had the opportunity to live a dream; I hosted an event where I was the featured speaker and if I say, I did pretty well. The scary point to this story is less than 9 hours later I was in a situation where I could have lost my life. Yes that real as it get, Time is precious, so it my mission to inspire, educate and empower people everywhere to make the necessary changes in there lives to live everyday as if it where there last. I want people to feel, look, and experience everything life has to offer because only the higher powers know when all of this we call LIFE can END…

As I write this I’m living the most amazing dream anyone could ever ask for and I hope to never wake from it. I have great friends, thriving business with a truly wonderful partner, and most importantly a loving grandmother. This morning I wrecked my car, and less than one hour later I was back living the dream.

You may be asking how he can do that. Its simple just understand there is a lesson in every situation and experience in life. Always look for the positive and stay focused on your dreams and goals. As long as I have my health and breathe in my lungs I will continue to live with passion, excitement, and enthusiasm.

2009 is going to be a wonderful year, but it will only become what you desire if you set yourself on fire with passion and stay Positive. We look forward to continuing to deliver our best and most up to date health and wellness information every Month. How to avoid wasting time at the gym and get the most from your workouts.

8 tips for Staying Focused and Getting serious results and avoiding time wasters at the Gym

  1. Go to the gym with a Plan
  2. Put your I-pod on before you walk into the Gym
  3. Schedule appointments within 30 minutes of your scheduled workout
  4. Set Short term goals and Get a Accountability partner
  5. Don’t talk to the Talking Big Guy Who never Lift any Weight
  6. Don’t try and Pick-up the Opposite sex during your workouts
  7. Bring you own Post Workout Shake
  8. Hire a Fitness Processional to assist you and keep you on track

If you follow these 8 tips you’ll get more from your workouts and spend less time not getting what you went there for in the first place. The gym is a place to get work done and then move on with your day. Leave the social stuff for another location. Port Washington, NY- On January 27th, at Harbor Links Clubhouse, five leading North Shore health, fitness and personal care professionals will deliver the seminar, ‘How to Make 2009 Your Healthiest and Best Year Ever,’ as a community awareness and fund raising event for Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect.

“The purpose of this event is to kick-off 2009 by teaching North Shore residents a proven strategy for achieving their New Year’s Resolutions of health and fitness and raising money for a great charity that I feel strongly about,” explains Breakthroughs To Fitness owner, Rahsheen Slaughter, a certified fitness and nutrition professional with 10 years experience serving over several hundred people both nation wide and internationally.

“Most people set health and fitness goals for the New Year, and start off with full momentum, but burn out quickly and never reach their goals. At this seminar, we will reveal how anyone with the desire can make 2009 the year their weight loss and fitness goals are finally achieved,” says Slaughter. “The line-up of health, fitness and personal care experts I’ve assembled is formidable. We’re all very confident we can have a real impact on the health of our community – and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time. We intentionally chose the name of the event because of its big promise. Too many time people blame others or other things besides themselves for lack of results. It’s true a gym with high energy helps out, but a person with high energy creates greatness and can go anywhere.

There are some who understand this concept and practice it, but then there are others who refuse to believe that it’s within them to control the outcome. My test or shall we say challenge is to put yourself in an environment that isn’t the most upbeat for you to workout and dig deep to motivate yourself. Find that energy and have a killer workout. Once you can master this, no matter what situation, you will have more success with your results.

10 Exercises I Hate!

This was inspired by a client who handed me a sheet of paper with a list of 10 exercises she hated.

They weren’t just listed, but drawings and descriptions of why she hated them.

It amused me and had me thinking, were there exercises I so called hated?

I think hate is the wrong term, rather uncomfortable.

So here is my top 10 list of exercises I “hate”:

  1. Burpees-they absolutely drain you
  2. Biceps curl-I know they are loved by all men and women love to hold them, but I just never became too interested in them
  3. Steady state cardio-it has its purpose, but to be used on a daily basis I get too bored. Plus I love my intervals :)
  4. Crunches-never found enjoyment in these. I have more interests in more stabilizing ab exercises.
  5. Pullups-now these are one of the most effective exercises, but I would have to say my weaker area so it made the list
  6. Lunges-again another effective/natural movement, yet something not practiced on a consistent basis so it makes the list as well
  7. Front squats-great to alternated between back and front, however as weight increases, front squats are looked at with displeasure
  8. Flys-whether on pec deck or with dumbbells, they create discomfort in joints so not a favorite
  9. hyper extensions-due to my anterior pelvic tilt this creates more strain on lower back then necessary.
  10. Leg curls on machine-creates a poping sensation in back of knee so I prefer hamstring curls on ball or wheel

So there you have it, 10 exercises I “hate.”

Now do notmisunderstand what I mean. Just because they are termed with the word “hate” does not mean I do not do them. Some of them I see great advanatages in and do them, just not always with a smile.

In life it’s the uncomfortable things that makes us better when consistently sought after.  In terms of fitness, we generally stick with exercises that we are comfortable with and used to.

Try this exercise. write down your top 10 exercises you hate. Post them on the blog and attempt to do all of them within a day period. You may not like doing it, but when you do, you will feel accomplished.

    Are You Over Training? 7 Ways to Test Yourself

    January is the month everyone sets off to recapture there former greatness. Gym memberships are up, personal trainers are busier than any other time of year, and group classes jammed packed. This is where the problem begins. Excitement set in and people lose there minds. After eight weeks of stuffing themselves with every type of holiday food possible, now these New years revolutionizers are ready to get in shape in 12 strait days.

    I’ve seen the same thing happen each year where the first 4 to 5 weeks of a new year people are super pumped up to workout and loss the holiday flab, but they forget they didn’t gain all that weight over the holidays. It was a cumulative effect and it will not just melt off because they go to the gym for 10 days in a row.

    Here lies the problem with this theory. 95 % will fail to lose the weight they are wishing to lose in the 10 days they set out to and get discouraged. Many will get hurt and stop going to the gym all together, and the rest well they stop by the gym every few weeks to talk to the front desk staff girl.

    Now you’ll get the person who is really determined to make it happen this time. This is the person I’m writing about today. This person sign up for a membership, buys a personal training package, and start taking classes. This new gym goer hasn’t step foot into a gym in three year but is approaching the tender age of O’ Sh*t I better get in shape. This is the person who started out 40 pounds overweight then loses 20 with diet modification and really wants to look like the person on the cover of Shape magazine.

    This is a reciped and crash collision with over-training and injury.
